The Cowboys are in need of defensive help, and one player has announced he could be the star of this year's free agency class.

Finding which defensive position the Dallas Cowboys should target in free agency is a tough thing to do.

In reality, there are several who need urgent attention.

Edge, linebacker, corner, and safety are the areas of need for Christian Parker.

We know the Cowboys have the cap space and the desire to be aggressive in free agency, as their effort to be "in" on Maxx Crosby was viewed positively.

But as we get closer to free agency, many aren't sure what positions the Cowboys will look to attack.

Granted, much of that could depend on how deep the free agency class is at one position, but still, given the amount of needs, Dallas can't really miss out, as such.

Personally, I feel the Cowboys should attack in free agency in one position: corner.

With Shavon Revel Jr. and DaRon Bland at the top of the depth chart, more is needed, and one name we have seen floated is New Orleans Saints star Alontae Taylor.

And make no mistake, he's got the top-tier play, and the confidence to back it up.

"I'm one of the best free-agent players coming out," Taylor said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "I definitely feel like I'm the best free-agent corner coming out. Just that versatility. Being able to play inside, play outside, and be able to help any team at whatever they need.

"Feeling like I could possibly be that CB1 for a team, and if I ever have to go into the slot to guard your best receiver who you move into the slot, I've shown that I can go in there and play comfortably. I feel like I bring a lot of attributes to the table. I do feel like I'm one of those best guys available, and I feel like a lot of teams out there feel the same way."

Someone of Taylor's talents would easily start for Parker.

He's going to be pricey, though, with Spotrac.com having his calculated market value at $15.8 million APY, but the Cowboys would be getting a corner who can do it all.

Equally adept at playing anywhere in the secondary, but he can also be used as a blitzer, as he managed two sacks, seven tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits last season, Taylor has good qualities.

Yes, some want Dallas to address corner in the draft with Mansoor Delane, but getting a ready-made, starting corner who Parker can plug in and get high-quality play from Day 1 is a good bet.

Yes, it will be pricey, but Dallas has the cap space to sign Taylor.

And I think they should do it.
