Not everyone is sold on the Cowboys' being players in free agency.

The Dallas Cowboys said all the right things regarding their approach to free agency this offseason.

Jerry Jones' 'bust the budget' quote has been highlighted, so too have his comments on borrowing from his future to get deals done.

But as we know with Jerry and the Cowboys, what they say and what they do are two completely different things.

So, as free agency arrived this week, many were eagerly waiting to see how the franchise moves.

And many seem disappointed.

We know that they were in for Las Vegas Raiders pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, but didn't want to part ways with two first-round picks, something we were completely fine with.

So, why not Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals?

Yes, Dallas has bolstered itself at two of the three levels on defense with the trade for Packers EDGE Rashan Gary and the signing of Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson.

But at linebacker? They didn't get Quay Walker (Packers to Raiders) or Nakobe Dean (Eagles to Raiders) or Devin Lloyd (Jaguars to Panthers).

Given the defensive needs of new coordinator Christian Parker, three or four starting-caliber players being added - which would break the mold of what Dallas has done over the years - seemed viable.

But going into the process?

Many are skeptical that Dallas will follow, including ESPN's Ben Solak.

“Sitting out the major part of free agency is generally the Cowboys' M.O," Solak writes

"But Dallas has less flexibility than most, is low on cap space in 2027 and Jones has a history of making bold proclamations and falling short of them."

Once again, no Dallas, isn't short on cap space. In terms of what the Cowboys can do, ESPN is wrong there.

So, the free agency shopping list, however long it is, can be completed ... if the Cowboys want to do so.

But the one thing Solak is right about is Jones making bold statements and then falling short. ... At least over the last decade and a half.

So, it is totally reasonable to scoff at what Jerry and the Cowboys have said this offseason, and the only way to make Cowboys Nation and media members like Solak believe is to follow through and be players in free agency. ...

And to make it clear that "bust the budget'' wasn't just another Jerry bumper-sticker statement.
