Prescott is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2025, so could Dak be in the MVP consideration in 2026?

You will be hard-pressed to find a more maligned NFL player than Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Some think he's a top quarterback in the league; others think he just sucks, and there's no in-between.

But last season, Prescott played one of the best seasons of his career, and given that Dallas had a 7-9-1 record, that might seem odd to say.

However, Prescott threw for 4,522 yards (3rd in the NFL), had 30 TDs (4th in the NFL), 10 interceptions, a passer rating of 99.5, and a QBR of 70.5 (5th in the NFL).

But as we know, stats don't tell the full story. Prescott was elite pre- and post-snap last season, getting his team into the right play; his decision-making, everything was at a high level.

Yes, it helps when you have CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens as your top two weapons, and a good run game with Javonte Williams.

Such was Prescott's start to the season; he was in the MVP discussion, and he was at the pointy end of it. But as the losses piled up in the second half of the year, so did Dak's MVP consideration.

But what about 2026? Is Dak in the MVP talk?

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has Prescott at No. 5 on his list of candidates to be a first-time MVP winner.

"Dak Prescott kicks off the list at No. 5," Moton wrote. "He may be the most overlooked top quarterback in the league because of the Dallas Cowboys' shortcomings. Prescott led the league in completions for the 2023 and 2025 seasons. He also threw for 30-plus touchdowns in both campaigns as the driving force of the Cowboys' high-octane offense.

"With a balanced roster, Dallas could get back into contention for the NFC East title and win double-digit games, which would give Prescott a shot to win MVP if he continues to rack up strong passing numbers."

Given that most of the offense has returned, and the defense under Christian Parker appears to be a much-improved unit already, despite no proper practices taking place, the Cowboys appear in good shape to return to the postseason.

And if they do, Dak would have played really well.

Given that there are the likes of Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and others who are always in the conversation, I get the feeling Prescott has to play out of his mind as he did last year just to be considered.

On paper, everything is lining up for Dak to have an MVP-level season, but as we know, things are rarely straightforward in the NFL.

But one thing is for sure, Prescott has the potential to win the MVP in 2026.
