Eagles fortify roster during bye week. Commanders grapple with quarterback injuries, while Giants' rookie QB shines amid team struggles.

The Philadelphia Eagles refused to take the bye week off, the Dallas Cowboys proved they’re at least a year away, the Washington Commanders saw their franchise quarterback knocked out yet again, and the New York Giants saw their rookie quarterback continue his ascent. Let’s take a look at the NFC East.

1. Philadelphia Eagles (6-2)

While the team had a bye week, the front office hardly took the week off. As of the time of this writing, within the last week the team has done the following:

10/29: Agreed to acquire CB Michael Carter II and a 2027 7th-round pick from the New York Jets in exchange for WR John Metchie III and a 2027 6th-round pick.

11/01: Agreed to acquire CB Jaire Alexander and a 2027 7th-round pick from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2026 6th-round pick.

11/03: Agreed to acquire OLB Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick.

The Eagles have the division in hand, and are clearly gearing up for what they hope is another deep postseason run.

2. Dallas Cowboys (3-5-1)

The Cowboys announced a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals for LB Logan Wilson the day after their disheartening 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It’s a worthwhile move as Wilson will audition for a role on next year’s team.

But, unless it’s another move for a player that is under control beyond this season, the team shouldn’t be making further additions. What Jerry does before the trade deadline will say a lot about how he views the rest of this season.

3. Washington Commanders (3-6)

Most of the attention has rightfully been on the latest injury to Jayden Daniels While it appears that a catastrophe was avoided, it remains to be seen if Daniels will be able to return this year and, if the team continues to struggle, if he should at all.

If the team wants to make it worthwhile for Daniels to return, the defense will need to step up. After surrendering 38 points to the Seattle Seahawks this week, they’re giving up 26.2 per game, “good” for No. 22 in the NFL. As long as the defense continues to play like that, it won't matter who lines up at under center.

4. New York Giants (2-7)

While the 34-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers is a bummer, this season is all about Jaxson Dart and his development. To that end, Dart looked very good this week, going 24/33 for 191 yards, 2 TDs, and zero INTs, while adding 56 yards and a TD on eight carries.

As long as Dart can continue this trajectory while staying healthy, this season has to be considered a success. The question then will become whether or not that will be enough to save Brian Daboll’s job.

Big Picture

The Eagles were the biggest winners without even playing a game, while the two middle teams raised questions not just about this season but the next as well. For their part, the Giants have their own exciting young quarterback that will look to set the G-Men up to make a move in the standings next season.
