The Cowboys have been linked with a host of defensive players in the upcoming NFL Draft, but there are question marks over McCoy.
The Dallas Cowboys will enter the NFL Draft armed with two first-round picks; most think the franchise will be using them on defensive players.
Of course, there is a possibility that an offensive player could be a "blinking light," like CeeDee Lamb was back in 2020.
Still, defense feels like the route Dallas will take, and then we get into who the franchise could take.
With picks No. 12 and No. 20, the Cowboys can go in any direction they want, and we have heard of the franchise being interested in trading up for someone like Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, or David Bailey.
But if the Cowboys don't, one name has been mentioned as a possible option: Tennessee's Jermod McCoy. But there is one big red flag for the corner: he hasn't played a game since 2024 after suffering an ACL injury.
Jerry Jones stated no redshirts, meaning the franchise wouldn't draft players like Shavon Revel Jr., who are coming off an injury, but with McCoy impressing at his pro day, have the Cowboys changed their tune?
Well, COO Stephen Jones was a guest on 105.3 The Fan and gave his thoughts on the Tennessee corner.
“That's a work in progress,” Jones said. “We're trying to do all the work that we need to do to get our hands around what his status will be for everything, mini camps, training camp, and then ultimately, will he be able to play part of the season, none of the season.
"All those are levels that then we put into an equation and decide where we might come down on that particular player.”
So it is clear the Cowboys aren't closing the door on McCoy as an option, but if it is between him and LSU's Mansoor Delane, I get the sense Dallas will go with Delane, as he doesn't have the injury history McCoy does.
Most think the Cowboys won't take McCoy, mainly because he hasn't played football for so long. You wonder what sort of player you are getting.
Plus, the knee injury. How healthy will he be? Yes, his pro day was good, but the Cowboys can't afford to ease McCoy in. He needs a full preseason to then start Week 1 and be productive as well.
So the Cowboys are doing their due diligence on McCoy, and the door isn't shut on the thought of drafting him.
Make of that what you will.
