The Cowboys led by 14 points in the fourth quarter, but capitulated late, to drop to 3-5 on the season with Prescott at a loss to explain what transpired at AT&T Stadium.
The Dallas Cowboys have hit rock bottom after a 33-30 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium, which now leaves everyone questioning where the franchise goes from here.
Many want the Cowboys to move on from Brian Schottenheimer after yet another disastrous game calling plays, and post-game, Schotty rolled out the "it starts with me, I've got to be better" line that will irate fans.
The defense showed great promise in the first half with sacks, an interception, and a turnover on downs, but then in the second half, at one stage, allowed four straight touchdown drives as Garner Minshew pulled Arizona back from the brink.
For Dak Prescott, who finished his day going 19 of 29 for 195 yards and a touchdown, while being sacked four times, gave a rather startling assessment of the loss.
“It’s disappointing, and it sucks," Dak said. "One of the toughest I've been a part of. Yeah, no words for it, really, other than that, really disappointing, frustrating.
“… We had a chance to win it, and should’ve won it. … To be under 200 yards (of offense) is crazy. I thought we were gonna win.”
Dak thought they were going to win, and in truth, the Cowboys should have.
They were up by 14 points midway through the fourth quarter, but the offense settled for field goals and didn't get touchdowns, and they paid the ultimate price for it.
Schottenheimer, as a play-caller, is coming under intense scrutiny after yet another underwhelming game that saw the conservative play-calling return.
In overtime, after the defense got a stop, the offense managed minus five yards and was forced to punt.
That isn't winning football.
After the Cowboys seemingly had the game right there to win, and just needed another gut-punch to the Cardinals to land that knockout blow, but they just couldn't land the hit.
And the offense struggled, and the defense wilted, and you ended up with a 33-30 loss to a 2-5 team that hadn't scored 30 points at all this season.
Prescott stated he has "no words" for the loss to the Cardinals, but we imagine millions of fans in Cowboys Nation will have a few words to say after this.
Rock bottom, folks. We're here.
