Williams signed a three-year extension with the Cowboys, but he revealed that it isn't the most important thing to him; something else is.
Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams got his future sorted this week, signing a three-year, $105.9 million deal, meaning he will be in Dallas for five seasons if all goes well.
Seen as a key piece of Christian Parker's defense and one of the best defensive tackles in football, getting out in front of his extension early, and not waiting until next offseason when it would have become urgent, is a big tick to the front office.
Now that Williams' future is sorted, he's continued to wreak havoc this offseason, starting with the joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams and then during the Cowboys' return to Oxnard.
Seeing the benefits of a full offseason with the organization, it is clear that Williams is a better version of himself compared to what we saw last year. And the Cowboys think so too; otherwise, they wouldn't have extended him. Although it was always part of the plan once they traded for him.
But how does Williams feel about getting his deal done early in the offseason?
"I think my agent, and then Jerry and the team and organization did a phenomenal job getting it done," Williams said.
That's great, but it was what Williams said next that got my attention, and it goes back to Quinnen being an RKG (right kind of guy) for the franchise.
"It wasn't, I want to say, important to me, the most important thing is winning, getting better every single day, and winning football games," he added. "It's super dope to see organization that want me here for the long run, that believe in me.
"But the most important thing is winning football games and getting better on defense every single day. So, I think that's the most important, and I'm kind of focused on that."
Winning, that is all Williams wants, and that is why he has been talked about so highly this offseason by his peers and coaches.
He is the leader on defense the Cowboys have craved (no shot at Micah here), but it is clear Williams is in the right place for his football, and with the backing of the front office and his coaches, he's feeling the love.
But having not played a playoff game in his career, that is where his focus is.
Winning football games, and a lot of them.
And that is what is the most important. The main thing is the main thing for Quinnen.
