President Bill Clinton makes a surprise appearance at the Cowboys' draft meeting, catching even coach Schottenheimer off guard in an unexpected Arkansas reunion.
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are in the middle of their pre-NFL draft press conference on Wednesday here inside The Star in Frisco. ...
And President Bill Clinton just walked in through the front door of the Atrium ... and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones - a long-time friend from their days coming up in Arkansas - is stopping the presser to talk to him and to sort of introduce him to the media.
“Here’s our President Clinton coming through the door out here,” Jones said. “He’s coming up here to say hello to us.”
Clinton mentioned Jerry's days as a Razorbacks offensive lineman who helped Arkansas win a national title in 1960.
And the PR-minded Jerry made sure to plug away, informing Clinton, "This will be the largest press conference going on in the NFL today. ...
“He’s been a wonderful not only president but friend over the years,” the 83-year-old Jones told reporters of the 79-year-old Clinton. “Happy to have you today.”
Clinton responded: “Thank you. Glad to see you. Have a good draft day.”
The two then exited the room on their way to a lunch inside the team's headquarters.
Just another day at The Star? Just another day in the life of Jerry Jones?
Sure, but ...
"That was definitely a first,'' coach Brian Schottenheimer said later, after Jones and Clinton exited the interview room. "That was pretty cool.''
