Initially, it was a little scrappy, but according to Lamb, in Oxnard, the defense has gotten rolling.
Much of the hope surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and what 2026 could have in store for them is thanks largely to Christian Parker and the defensive changes.
With so many new players and coaches now on the staff, the winds of change have blown through The Star.
But with roughly 10 new players as starters or rotational pieces, naturally there is going to be a learning curve for the group. Plus, Parker is a first-time coordinator, although going by Brian Schottenheimer's words, he doesn't act like it.
With Rashan Gary, Caleb Downs, Jalen Thompson, Cobie Durant, Dee Winters, Otito Ogbonnia, Malachi Lawrence, and Jaishawn Barham, the Cowboys have a good nucleus of new players to come in and help power this unit.
But what will also help the defense is who they are going against each day in practice.
And that is one of the best offenses in football.
Dak Prescott, George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams, Ryan Flournoy and Jake Ferguson can create all sorts of problems, not to mention the offensive line and the improvement expected there.
But for Lamb, what has he seen from Parker's defense a week into camp?
"Minicamp, it was definitely a little bit shaky obviously because a lot of new guys, a lot of moving parts, but you can see that they're getting comfortable with it," Lamb said.
"They're taking what they're taking from the classroom and they're building on it out here. The D-line is amazing. Our linebackers are fast. Our DBs are fast. They're smooth. And then you just got to let CP do his thing and then I feel like the rest will fall in line."
DaRon Bland is healthy, so too Shavon Revel Jr, then we add in Durant, Thompson, and Downs, so the secondary, on paper, at least, looks in a better spot than a year ago.
DeMarvion Overshown with the green dot and Winters at linebacker is a good duo, plus with Barham seen out in coverage, and not just rushing the passer in camp, he is another to has stood out in Oxnard.
We heard Dak state in minicamp how the defense was making it tough on him. Lamb called them "annoying" and now it appears the paint is starting to dry on Parker's unit.
Now, adversity hasn't truly hit yet, that will come in the regular season, but right now, Lamb knows this defense is starting to get its feet underneath them.
And that bodes well for Parker having his players mastering the system before Week 1 in New York.
