While some of Cowboys Nation are nervous about what the defense will look like in Week 2, Stephen isn't.
Make no mistake: the Dallas Cowboys' defense was woeful in Week 1 against the New York Giants, but they have a chance to make it right in Week 2.
Coming up against the Washington Commanders, Christian Parker will be the one we are all watching.
Will there still be all the miscommunication, missed assignments, and costly penalties that plagued Dallas last week? Or will they still be there for all to see?
Having lost at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball as the Giants were simply tougher, many are now questioning exactly what this defense can be.
Also, there isn't too much confidence that the Cowboys can fix all of the warts that were on display last week, at least from outside the building.
Inside? Well, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones is confident that things can and will be fixed against Washington.
“I do think this can be a quick fix, but at the same time, we also gotta understand this is a work in progress. I love the culture and DNA on this team still," Jones said on San Antonio Sports Star radio, via Jon Machota.
“I think our defense should just keep getting better. The offense did a lot of good things and I think they’ll continue to get better as well. I’d be the first to admit that I was very surprised and disappointed (by the season opener), but also believe that this team has a bright future.
“… I know that we got the right kind of guys on this team that I think will answer the bell, and we’ll continue to get better. I think it will be with urgency. And I think we’ll see a much better product on Sunday.”
So there appears to be all the confidence in the world that the Cowboys and Parker can turn this embattled ship around on defense against the Commanders.
Having had all of the hope and optimism from the offseason, be sucked out of the fanbase after one game, there is a lot of pressure on Parker this Sunday to show improvement.
The defense simply has to be better across the board at AT&T Stadium, because one can only imagine that after all of this talk about fixing the issues and liking what is being built, if they fall flat again and move to 0-2, it will be panic stations in Dallas.
For now, all we have is talk.
Let's see if that is met with action on Sunday.
