It loomed as a crucial offseason for the left tackle, and he's improved in the way fans and the coaching staff expected.
Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton came into this offseason knowing that the pressure was on.
A former first-round pick who hadn't really shown that level of play, Tyler was in a battle for his job with Nate Thomas, and the Cowboys publicly announced that.
Now, whether or not that battle was real, or it was used to poke Guyton and inspire him to be better, we don't know, but what we do know is that the battle didn't last long.
Guyton has been nothing if not consistent in camp, or at least more consistent than he had been. To the point where there isn't as much angst over the left tackle spot now as there was before camp.
But how does Tyler think his camp went?
"Good camp, I'm happy about it, and it feels good to make it through a camp," Guyton said. "Even though I had a couple nicks and bruises, it feels good to actually make it through the final day of camp and have my health."
With Guyton having the pressure on and a bullseye on his back of sorts as his position on the team, at least for a minute, was thought to be in jeopardy.
But as camp rolled on, it was clear Guyton had improved, and that Dak Prescott's blindside might just be better protected than it has been in previous years.
However, for all that Guyton had done in Oxnard, did he accomplish what he set out to do?
"For the most part," he added. "I feel pretty good right now, and my strength levels are where I wanted to be. My technique is becoming more sound by the day, and I'm feeling more comfortable at the left tackle spot. So, yeah, things are working out.”
With Guyton locking down the left tackle spot with confidence, that takes a lot of the pressure off of Dak, and in truth, leaves right tackle as the only question mark.
Brian Schottenheimer stated Terence Steele needed to be more consistent, so time will tell if he can lock down the right-hand side after a tough offseason.
However, Guyton's offseason has been anything but. Yes, there have been ups and downs, but far more ups as the former first-rounder looks set to finally have the year many in Cowboys Nation have been waiting years for.
