Trade George Pickens? Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Reveals A Master Plan
Nov 4, 2026 12:52 PM

As frustration mounts over George Pickens' dwindling snap counts, Jerry Jones faces a high-stakes deadline ultimatum: capitalize on his star receiver’s trade value or double down on 2024.

The Dallas Cowboys' 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium, for the most part, was the final nail in the coffin for 2026.

The Cowboys, despite still being in with a shot at winning the division, aren't good enough right now on both sides of the ball, and the losses just keep piling up.

But it has been the manner in which the Cowboys have lost that has caused so much frustration, and in particular, the use, or lack thereof, of George Pickens.

For whatever reason, Brian Schottenheimer and the offensive staff haven't used Pickens nearly as much as last season. In fact, Ryan Flournoy had more snaps against Arizona than George.

That's a problem.

And now, at 3-5 with the trade deadline looming, there are calls for the Cowboys, if they aren't going to use Pickens, to trade him.

Stephen A. Smith stated, "You have to trade him," on First Take. Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News, wrote that the Cowboys might have to consider it, even though he doesn't suspect they will.

Ian Rapoport was told that a trade of Pickens isn't happening and said, "As of right now, there's nothing there" in terms of a trade.

But the thing is, there is now so much smoke around a potential move of Pickens that it is nearly impossible to ignore.

The Cowboys' season has dictated that the franchise could consider moving on, but if Dallas did, that would be a signal to the locker room and the rest of the league that they are giving up on the 2026 season.

We know Jerry Jones isn't, stating on 105.3 The Fan, “Because I like the way we’re trending" regarding significant changes.

Jones also said he would like to ser Pickens get more than the four targets that went his way in the loss to Arizona.

But until the Nov. 10 trade deadline passes, the Pickens rumors won't stop; in fact, they will ramp up even more.

Why?

Because having a star receiver on the franchise tag who can walk away next season for a compensatory pick can lead to the idea of getting a possible return to strengthen what is only a four-pick draft hand right now.

That's assume this season is viewed as a lost year.

So, along with how the team plays in the coming games, another thing to watch is how this Pickens trade idea will play out.

Most svery man and his dog thinks Dallas should do it. But the man who makes the final decision appears dug in on his thoughts. ... with Jerry wanting targets, not trade-aways.
