Schottenheimer revealed the council to begin camp, and surprisingly, Tyler Booker's name was on it.

As the Dallas Cowboys opened up training camp, head coach Brian Schottenheimer, as he did last season, revealed what he calls the "leadership council' to the media.

A select group of players chosen to be the ones who drive the standards day in, day out and push this team forward. An extension of the coaching staff, if you will.

This year, there are 11 players who were chosen.

Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams, Tyler Smith, Jake Ferguson, Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Jalen Thompson, Rashan Gary and Bryan Anger.

And there is one more who is in the group, and it is a rather surprising one, but in a good way...Tyler Booker.

After one season in the NFL, we always know what sort of person and player Booker is, to the extent that there are no concerns over the right guard position he took over from future Hall of Famer Zack Martin. The same can't be said for left tackle.

So, for Booker to be seen among his peers as worth of being in the leadership council speaks volumes for what sort of player and leader he is.

"We knew what we were getting with Tyler," Schottenheimer said. "When we drafted him, we knew that he was an elite person, elite human being. He was all about our five core values of putting the team first, working hard, competing and he loves football and he's about the brotherhood."

But not just that, part of being a leader is showing the way for the rest of your teammates, and given how young Booker is, that isn't exactly easy.

Except he's been a leader ever since he stepped foot on a football field in Alabama.

Whether that is on the football field or in the meeting room, Schottenheimer made it clear that Booker appears to be in a great position at this early stage of his career.

"You can't go into any meeting room that Tyler Booker's in and if you ask for an opinion, his hands shooting up and he speaks with conviction," Schottenheimer added. "I can't say enough great things about him, and he was one of the few no-brainers. I think every single one of us had him on there and that says a lot for a guy going into his second year."

With Booker now firming as a young star, he will likely be on the leadership council for the rest of his career (depending on how Year 2 goes, obviously).

But for so many of his teammates to see the good he is doing and the leader he is at his young age, it appears Dallas has once again nailed a first-round draft selection on an offensive lineman.

Not just because of the talent, but because of the leadership qualities that Booker pairs with it.
