The Cowboys have a loaded offense, and a defense that we don't know what to expect, but what is Brian Schottenheimer's biggest roster strength?
As we look at the Dallas Cowboys in 2026, we can argue that coach Brian Schottenheimer has been given the tools to take this team back to the postseason.
With an offense seen as one of the best in football, and a defense that we think will be improved, all signs this offseason point to a much more balanced football team.
No more "30+ points from the offense and the defense getting its doors blown off'' each week.
But looking at Dallas' roster right now, where could we say is its biggest strength?
The quarterback with Dak Prescott coming off a Pro Bowl season?
Or the defensive line with Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark?
Both are legitimate options, but for ESPN's Mike Clay, it's another position, and maybe it is rather easy to pick.
"Similar to last year, we'll focus on a wide receiver room that helped the Cowboys lead the NFL in passing yards in 2025," Clay wrote. "It starts with CeeDee Lamb, who, despite missing five games over the past two years, has delivered 1,000-plus receiving yards in five consecutive seasons. Since entering the league in 2020, Lamb sits in the top five in receptions (571) and receiving yards (7,416).
"George Pickens is fresh off a breakout 2025 season (his first in Dallas) in which he finished no lower than seventh among wide receivers in catches, receiving yardage, touchdowns and yards per target. Ryan Flournoy and versatile KaVontae Turpin add depth."
Indeed, we can make the case that Dallas as one of the best receiver tandems in football.
Lamb is a perennial Pro Bowler and gets his 1,000 yards every season (five straight years), and Pickens is coming off a year that saw him go from a problem in Pittsburgh to one of the best receivers in football with the Cowboys.
Pickens' 1,429 yards and 9 TDs were among the best returns in football in 2025, and he has well and truly established what he can do for an offense with a capable quarterback.
Aside from Cincy'sJa'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Lamb and Pickens are among the best receiver duos in football, and a big reason many have the Cowboys returning to the postseason in 2026 is No. 88 and No. 3.
What they do to defenses is create headaches. You can't stop them both.
Then we have Ryan Flournoy as a good third option, and maybe KaVontae Turpin as Clay suggests, lthough we'd prefer he focus on returning punts rather than catching passes.
But Dallas' biggest roster strength? It's receiver, and it isn't particularly close.
