It has nearly been the ideal offseason for the Cowboys, but once camp begins, will it still be smooth sailing?
Do you hear that? Yeah, me neither. The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been rather quiet; some would even say too quiet.
Even owner Jerry Jones has been radio silent over the past couple of months as the Cowboys gear up for training camp in Oxnard, one could nearly say it's been an ideal offseason to date.
Even the Charles Snowden news hasn't seen a big upheaval.
The players who were out of contract got extensions, and early, with Brandon Aubrey, Javonte Williams and George Pickens all having their futures sorted before mandatory minicamp began.
So that means for the first time in a handful of years, the Cowboys have zero drama hanging over them as we head to training camp on July 28. There is no lingering issue that will stop the main thing from being the main thing.
And that, my friends, is a breath of fresh air for a franchise that desperately needed a quiet offseason, and so far, they've got it.
But as we know in the NFL, things rarely stay quiet for long, and once practices start in Oxnard, we will see whether this quiet offseason continues.
Yes, Pickens is now playing under the franchise tag in 2026, and while he's stated there will be no conflict, for some critics, unhappiness from GP is still very much on the table until we see No. 3 on the practice field with his teammates.
In truth, that could be the only thing that could derail this quiet offseason (maybe an injury), so all eyes will be on George when the team arrives in Oxnard. ... and maybe throughout the year.
This offseason has been vastly different from years prior, with Jerry and the Cowboys finally changing up their approach to free agency and hiring Christian Parker, a process that took a long time.
So, the winds of change have blown through The Star this offseason, in more ways than one, as the Cowboys look to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
Now, change doesn't always translate to success, but for a Cowboys organization that has always tried to be "above the fold" on any given day, the fact that they aren't this offseason might just lead to different results.
