It appears Prescott is using all the tools in his arsenal, even when people don't want him to.
When Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott entered the NFL, he was a dual-threat quarterback.
Equally adept at running the football as he was throwing it, and for the first four seasons of his career, Dak put up some decent numbers.
He had at least 270 rushing yards and 3 TDs each year, but then a nasty ankle injury in 2020 put him on the shelf, and Dak's running prowess was put on the back burner.
Over the next three seasons, Prescott didn't run as much, the read-options weren't part of the plan, and he was a pocket passer for the most part.
From 2021 to 2022, Dak had just one rushing touchdown and didn't surpass 182 rushing yards, as many thought the days of him running for first downs were over.
But in 2023, it came back, as Dak rushed for 242 yards and a touchdown on 55 carries, but then in 2024, his hamstring was torn off the bone.
His dual-threat days were over.
But that brings us to last season, and Prescott once again reminded us that he can still be a useful runner with the ball in his hands.
Dak posted 177 yards and 2 TDs from 53 carries. Now, on the surface, that doesn't seem like much, but if we delve a little deeper, it might just be something to cling to.
His 53 carries are the second-most in a season since 2018, and his two touchdowns are the most since 2020.
Four times last season, Dak had 20+ yards on the ground and a further three games of 14+ yards on the ground. Now, they weren't designed run plays, more so Prescott taking off to move the chains when a play broke down, but still, the ability to take off was there.
So the ability to still be a runner is something Prescott showed in 2025 can be part of his offensive arsenal. Now, history says that when Dak has a good season on the ground, the following year it ends badly, so we will be on watch for that.
But Prescott showing he can still motor and pick up crucial yards (that Eagles rushing TD) is perhaps an underrated part of his game.
It was dormant for a couple of seasons, but maybe, at the ripe old age of 32 (soon to be 33), it might just be making a comeback.
