FRISCO - Tom Brady is putting his football life behind him. But he's not quite ready for his future in the TV broadcast booth as Fox's No. 1 analyst.
Brady is telling Colin Cowherd that, after talking with executives at Fox last week, he does not expect to begin his broadcasting career until the fall of 2024. ... meaning the GOAT is taking a real year off to be really retired.
And why? It all does have something to do with the Dallas Cowboys.
In an interview with ESPN over the weekend, the recently retired quarterback's father, Tom Sr., said one of the reasons his son decided to finally quit was the brutal toll 23 seasons in the NFL took on his body.
"This has been a really rough six months on his personal life, his family life, and on his football life,” Tom Sr. said. “He once said this, he said, ‘I’m getting tired of getting hit.’"
And of course the last NFL team to hit Brady was the Cowboys, ousting the QB and his Bucs in the playoffs. ... that outing adding to his NFL record total of sacked 565 times.
“At 45 years of age, you say, ‘Hey, do I want to get hit one more time?’," Tom Sr. said. "The answer’s really 'Nah.'' ...
In 2024, Brady will enter another competitive field - and this is Cowboys-related as well. He'll be the top guy at FOX ... competing in a sense with Troy Aikman, the top guy at ESPN and with Tony Romo, the top guy at CBS.
"Winning'' in his next endeavor will take some work. And some time.
Mixed into the decision to leave the NFL but wait a year to go back to work? As we've documented, the last year has been rough in Brady's personal life. He divorced from his celebrity wife, Giselle, as the two work together to parent their kids. ... a perfectly good reason to get away from the workplace for a while.
