The Miami Dolphins have placed linebacker/defensive back Kyle Louis on IR and made several other roster moves.
The Miami Dolphins have confirmed that linebacker/defensive back Kyle Louis will be out for multiple weeks, as they have placed the rookie defender on IR. This will knock Louis out for at least the next four regular season games.
Additionally, the team has also made multiple other roster moves to add to the active roster and practice squad, with Louis now out.
Louis suffered what appeared to be a knee injury early on in the team's Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. It was not initially known how serious the injury was, but it was reported to be an MCL sprain.
Considering the placement on IR, Louis' reported injury is likely just that.
To make up for the loss of Louis, the Dolphins also signed cornerback Jaylin Simpson to the active roster from the practice squad.
Simpson began his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 2024 and was on the team's practice squad that season. He then played for the New York Jets that same year, the Green Bay Packers in 2025, and joined the Miami practice squad on Sep. 1.
Simpson played in one game for the Packers in 2025, securing eight total tackles during that time.
Miami is also adding some insurance in the form of a long snapper, as Cal Adomitis has been signed to the practice squad to take Simpson's spot.
The Dolphins ran into a big issue on Sunday when long snapper Tucker Addington was hurt attempting to stop a Raiders returner from scoring a touchdown. The subsequent tackle led to Addington suffering a shoulder injury.
With Addington out, the Dolphins then looked to their emergency and backup long snapper: rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez.
Rodriguez began taking snaps, but Addington was able to finish out the game despite his injury.
Had Rodriguez stayed the emergency long-snapper, he would have done that while also calling plays on defense as the green-dot linebacker. The rookie spoke about that fact, saying he was simply doing what needed to be done.
Losing Louis is a big hit to the Dolphins roster and the defensive side of things, as the rookie linebacker was converted to the safety room after being drafted and was expected to be a major factor on special teams.
The Dolphins dropped their first game against the Raiders with a final score of 27-13 and they face an even bigger challenge against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
