The Miami Dolphins have a lot more work to do on their roster, but they are keeping one of their better offensive linemen.
Longtime veteran Austin Jackson is returning to the team on an adjusted deal.
Jackson will return on a one-year, $7 million deal, which includes four void years.
Jackson has played all six seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins, taking on left tackle, left guard, and right tackle over those years. The issue is that the stalwart lineman has had injury issues that have kept him off the field.
During the 2023 season, Jackson appeared in and started 16 games. Since then, he has dealt with multiple ailments.
The 2024 season saw the veteran miss nine games due to a knee injury, which required surgery. In 2025, he appeared in only six games due to a significant toe injury that kept him sidelined through most of the season.
Keeping Jackson was expected, as the Dolphins are attempting to keep their core offensive line intact. Larry Borom and Cole Strange left for other teams, but the Dolphins still have a solid unit.
Jackson joins left tackle Patrick Paul, left guard Jonah Savaiinaea, and center Aaron Brewer. All players, minus Jackson and Savaiinaea, played very well in 2025.
The Dolphins will need to figure out their right guard position, which could be inhabited by Kion Smith. Savaiinaea is a bit of a mystery, as he was one of the worst-rated guards in the NFL.
To be fair, Savaiinaea was a rookie who was thrown into the proverbial fire, and he may not have been ready for it. He is expected to take a significant jump in year two with the Dolphins.
The building blocks for this Dolphins team are there, as the line has been mostly kept together. There is also a new addition in quarterback Malik Willis. Pro Bowl running back De'Von Achane and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle are also on the team and will be the building blocks for the future.
If Jackson can stay on the field and remain healthy, the Dolphins could have the semblance of a top offensive line in the league.
