Dolphins head coach Jeff Halfey shared while speaking to the media on Tuesday morning.
“It’s part of the business,” Hafley said.
The 24-year-old star running back is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is eager to get a new deal done. The Dolphins also want to retain Achane for a long-period of time and will not entertain trading him.
Hafley also mentioned that the Dolphins had perfect attendance for voluntary workouts outside of the absence of Achane. Although the Dolphins are in rebuild mode, they still view Achane as a core and unavailable piece for their future.
He certainly fits their timeline in what they want to accomplish this season and for years to come. The Dolphins aren't expected to do much in 2026, but that is not expected to be the case for the seasons to come.
Miami will have the money after this upcoming season to build a formidable roster. It may not take a season or two to get it done, but they certainly won't lack the resources.
Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and Hafley have been vocal about wanting to get an extension done for Achane. They have mentioned multiple times on previous engagements that they view Achane as their top priority this offseason.
The Texas native has made a name for himself in his three-year career. The Dolphins drafted Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Miami drafted him with the No. 84 overall pick out of Texas A&M, and he quickly became a fan favorite in his rookie season.
Right out the gate, Achane set multiple NFL and franchise records. He finished with the highest yards per carry (7.8) for a running back with at least 100 carries in NFL history. Achane also became the first player in the Super Bowl era to score seven touchdowns in his first four games.
As for the Dolphins franchise records, Achane broke the Dolphins rookie record with 203 rushing yards in a single game, which occurred in Week 3 of the 2023 season against the Denver Broncos.
Achane is juts gettign state din his NFL career. Despite an underwhelming season from the Dolphins as a whole, he was named a Pro Bowler. Achane recorded career-highs with 1,350 rushing yards in 238 rushing attempts, 84.4 rushing yards per game and also tallied 488 receiving yards.
The one-time Pro Bowler is expected to continue to do big things in 2026 and beyond.
