The Miami Dolphins may have experienced a major injury, as offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer had to be carted off the field.
Injuries are unfortunately a major part of the NFL, and they can occur at any time during OTAs, practice, mini-camp, games, or otherwise. The Miami Dolphins may have experienced their first potential major injury.
Per Sun Sentinel's David Furones, offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer had to be carted off the field. It is not yet known what the injury is and how severe it is.
Salyer figured to be a potential to land a starting position on the line, and he may have been at least a guaranteed rotational option for the line. Though he has not been given any sort of disheartening injury update, having to be carted off the field is never a good sign.
The Dolphins also have multiple injured starters, who appear to be nursing ailments from the previous season.
Defensive tackle Zach Sieler was not spotted at mini-camp practice, but head coach Jeff Hafley said he "tweaked" something "minor."
"Yeah, just he tweaked something minor. Um, he'll be fine. just better to keep him out and we worked him out," Hafley said during his media availability on Wednesday.
The other two starters that are dealing with injures are runnning back De'Von Achane and offensive lineman Austin Jackson.
Achane has been nursing a shoulder injury, and Hafley indicated that he would remain doing individual drills through the duration of mini-camp.
Jackson has been dealing with a foot injury that has sidelined him for the majority of the 2025 season. When speaking to the media, Jackson said he "feels great." Hafley also confirmed the lineman would remain on individual drills.
Achane's injury is a concern, but it does sound as though the running back will be perfectly fine when training camp rolls around in late July. After signing a four-year, $64 million contract, his being injured to start the season would be rough.
Jackson is also in a contract year, as the Dolphins brought the often-injured lineman back on an adjusted one-year deal. If he cannot stay healthy, there is a chance he will be replaced as the starter for 2026, and would likely play his final year in South Florida.
Jackson is one of the strongest linemen when healthy, but he has had multiple issues with staying on the field. Through the 2024 and 2025 seasons, he only appeared in 14 games.
Teams can often carry injuries into the start of the regular season, but Jackson, Sieler, or Achane being hurt would put a damper on a team that is already built on unproven veterans and rookies.
