The Miami Dolphins' season is set to wrap. They have one final game against the New England Patriots, and then the offseason will become busy for the organization.
Though the Dolphins are hoping for a big win against their biggest division rivals, the team will reportedly be down two starters.
Per a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back De'Von Achane are not expected to play.
It was already established that Achane had a long shot to play in the season finale, as his status was already doubtful due to a shoulder injury. After missing a full week of practice, it was believed he would not play.
The Dolphins also elevated Jeff Wilson Jr. from the practice squad, indicating even more that Achane would be sidelined.
Waddle is a bit of a surprise, as he remained questionable heading into the contest. He did suffer a rib injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it appears the injury has impacted him in a way that will keep him out of the season finale.
Achane ends his 2025 season with 1,838 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns from scrimmage. This includes 1,350 rushing yards, which is good for fifth in the NFL, and a league-leading 5.7 yards per rush average.
Waddle ends his season with 910 yards and six touchdowns, should he be inactive for the finale.
As stated, the Dolphins will have a busy offseason ahead. Per reports, the organization is expected to start its search for a new general manager on Monday.
The team brought in Troy Aikman to help consult on the new hire, and his knowledge, past playing career, and his current analytical job are what led the Dolphins to bring him in as an outside perspective.
On top of that, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross will have to make a decision regarding the team keeping or parting ways with head coach Mike McDaniel.
NFL insider Adam Schefter has indicated that he believes that McDaniel will be safe and return for a fifth season, but that has not been corroborated in any way. Ross is truly the only person who knows what will happen.
The good news is the Dolphins new general manager will have cornerstone pieces to build around, such as Waddle and Achane. What happens beyond that is a mystery, but there are plenty of players on the current team that can help usher in the new era of Miami football.
