There is a good chance that the Miami Dolphins will cut Tyreek Hill, unless he alters his deal and wants to stay with the team.
The issue is Hill is due a whopping $51 million in 2026, which points to his eventual release. That said, the Dolphins will need an upgrade at the position and have been linked to a pending Washington Commanders free agent.
When new head coach Jeff Hafley took over, he stated the team has some cornerstone pieces to work with in offenive lineman Patrick Paul, running back De'Von Achane, and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, among others.
The issue is the Dolphins only have Waddle on the team as a true WR1. As stated, Hill is unlikely to return to the team. Achane was the second-best receiver on the team with 488 receiving yards, which shows the level that the other pass catchers were at.
To be fair, this also has to do with the limitations of Tua Tagovailoa and the struggle from the team as a whole.
That said, the Dolphins could upgrade their wide receiver corps with the addition of Deebo Samuel. Samuel is set to become a free agent, and the Commanders playmaker has been linked to Miami.
Nathan Jhanke of PFF.com put together a best case scenario fantasy football list of pending free agents, and linked Samuel to the Dolphins.
"Miami promoted Bobby Slowik as its offensive coordinator this offseason. Slowik was the 49ers' pass game specialist in 2021, which was Samuel’s one year as an All-Pro player. He caught 77 passes for 1405 yards that season and had 14 total offensive touchdowns that season. Miami would be the best place for Samuel to revitalize his career," Jahnke wrote.
Jahnke has a point in that the Dolphins did promote Bobby Slowik to offensive coordinator. He has ties to Samuel, as he was the pass game specialist in 2021 when the receiver posted his best season to date.
1,405 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 77 catches led to Samuel receiving All-Pro honors.
With the Dolphins needing another receiver to pair with Waddle, Samuel could be that person.
Samuel's production has waned over the past few seasons, but he remains a similar dual-threat receiver that could also designed runs thrown his way.
The issue is the Dolphins are in a tough cap situation, and the front office under Jon-Eric Sullivan will have to work some magic to see if Miami can even be players during free agency.
