The Miami Dolphins have officially announced the signing of star running back De’Von Achane.
The Dolphins shared the news that they have extended Achane.
The 24-year-old agreed to a four-year, $68 million deal that includes $32 million guaranteed. The extension runs through the 2030 season.
The Dolphins' new brass, led by general manager Jon Eric-Sullivan and new head coach Jeff Hafley, were adamant from the start that they view Achane as a valuable piece of the team moving forward.
They spoke highly of Achane, and they backed those words with the massive extension. Before the signing was made official, Hafley spoke to the media on Tuesday and expressed his excitement to lock up Achane for the foreseeable future.
“I think it sends a good message when you have a player who was here on his first contract, and has produced and had success, to reward that player with a second contract,” Hafley said. “I know that’s important to Sully and I.”
“It’s not like he just showed up after he signed his contract,” Hafley said. “So, excited that it’s done and he’ll be here going forward. He’s a great player and I’m really glad we have him.”
The decision to lock up Achane past this season was a no-brainer for the team. The former Texas A&M Aggie led the league in yards per carry last season at 5.7. Overall, he finished the season with 1,350 rushing yards with eight touchdowns, plus 67 receptions for 488 yards and found the endzone four times through the air.
The Texas native has quickly made a name for himself over his first three NFL seasons. Miami selected Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the No. 84 overall pick out of Texas A&M, and he immediately became a fan favorite during his rookie campaign.
From the start, Achane set multiple NFL and franchise records. He finished with the highest yards per carry average (7.8) by a running back with at least 100 carries in NFL history, while also becoming the first player in the Super Bowl era to score seven touchdowns across his first four career games.
The star running back etched his name in Dolphins history during Week 3 of the 2023 season against the Denver Broncos, when he rushed for 203 yards to set the franchise rookie record for rushing yards in a single game.
The 2026 season may no be pretty for the Dolphins; however, all eyes will be on Achane as he looks to reach another level in his game.
