The Miami Dolphins are undergoing a ton of changes this offseason. They hired both a new head coach and general manager as they are set for a new era of Dolphins football.
Change is underway in South Beach, and the future of wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was unclear. Waddle has been with the team for the past five seasons, but he was involved in trade talks last November, leaving many to wonder whether he would be on the trade block again amid this roster reset.
Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan spoke to the media about the receiver at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. Sullivan said he sees Waddle with the team this upcoming season.
“Jaylen is a very good football player," Sullivan said. "My vision is for Jaylen to be part of this. ... We are not actively trying to move Jaylen Waddle.”
The Dolphins selected Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is a foundational piece and has been an elite playmaker for the team in the past few seasons.
Waddle has served as a premier deep threat and crucial offensive weapon since he stepped onto the scene. He's been a pillar to the team with his wide variety of skills, and Sullivan recognizes that.
Through five seasons, he has brought in 5,039 yards and 26 touchdowns, placing his average at just over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns per season.
The Dolphins' general manager shared that same sentiment for running back De'Von Achane.
"[ Achane is] a marvelous player. We want him to be part of this thing moving forward," Sullivan said. "We're kind of focused on what's at hand, which is free agency, and then the draft. We will have those [extension] conversations with him as well as some other guys as we move down the road, but that's going to be later in the summer."
That confidence did not extend to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Unlike his firm stance on Waddle and Achane, Sullivan stopped short of offering a full endorsement of Tagovailoa, instead emphasizing that the team is keeping every option open — even a trade.
"Everything's on the table right now. It could go in a lot of different ways," Sullivan said. "A trade is a possibility, but Tua is aware, his representation is aware. We've had really positive conversations, and, like I said, it's kind of all on the table when it comes to Tua at this moment.
"Tagovailoa's reps] have expressed that he wants to play and that they still think he can play at a high level. The conversations have been productive, but they have not in particular said that they want to be traded."
Sullivan has a vision for what the Dolphins could be, and Waddle is part of it.
