The Miami Dolphins are looking to rebuild after a disappointing 7-10 finish in the 2025 NFL Season. They have fired head coach Mike McDaniel and brought in former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to take over.
Now, McDaniel is with Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers as their new offensive coordinator. And he brought one of the Dolphins' best weapons with him.
According to a report from Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, the Chargers are hiring Butch Berry as their new offensive line coach.
Barry has been the Dolphins' offensive line coach for three years now and is widely regarded for being able to maximize their room.
Barry's offensive line contributed to the Dolphins being one of the most dominant offenses in the 2023 NFL Season. Miami had the league's best passing offense, averaging 265.5 yards per game.
In 2023, the Dolphins were also ranked sixth in rushing offense averaging 135.8 yards per game. Individually, starting running back Raheem Mostert rushed for 1,012 yards and a league-leading 18 touchdowns while then-rookie running back De'Von Achane rushed for 800 yards and eight touchdowns.
However, Barry's skill as a coach is best seen in the 2025 NFL Season, despite Miami not reaching the same heights.
The Dolphins organization spent the third-least amount of money on their offensive line room. Despite this, Miami finished tied for fourth in rushing yards per attempt as a team at 4.70. Additionally, they ranked 13th in rushing yards per game despite having one of the worst passing games in the league, ranked 25th.
Also in 2025, Achane had his best season yet, recording 1,350 rushing yards, eight rushing touchdowns, and a league-leading 5.7 rushing yards per attempt. He was named to his first Pro Bowl.
Finally, Barry was instrumental in making center Aaron Brewer one of the best offensive line men in the NFL. In fact, Brewer was named as a finalist for the first-ever NFL Protector of the Year award at the NFL Honors ceremony.
Needless to say, the Dolphins are going to have a huge hole to fill with Barry leaving the coaching staff. According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, he'll be replaced by Zach Yenser.
Yenser was previously the assistant offensive line coach for the Houston Texans. Before that, he was the offensive line coach for the University of Kentucky.
While Yenser has been considered to be one of the top candidates for the position, he will have massive shoes to fill.
