The Miami Dolphins will not host the Super Bowl, as owner Stephen Ross confirmed it will be at least 10 years before it happens again.
Hard Rock Stadium has not hosted a Super Bowl since 2020, and now Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has revealed why that is.
Per an interview he did with the South Florida Business Journal, Ross admitted that other events, such as the Miami Open and Formula Grand Prix, have left the stadium without the proper hospitality areas. This has led Hard Rock to fall out of the rotation to host, which could take 10 years to come back around.
"Miami is not really in line for [a Super Bowl]," Ross said. "It’s always exciting to have the Super Bowl but that was before we had all the other events. Miami has by far the best weather. It’s in their best interest to have one here but at this point they don’t believe we meet all the requirements and the demands."
Despite losing out on the Super Bowl, the stadium is currently hosting the Miami Grand Prix, which is taking place on Sunday. Ross admitted that there is far more attendance at the race than there is during regular season Dolphins games.
The Dolphins owner also stated that improvements to the stadium are forthcoming, so a chance to bring back the Super Bowl to South Florida can occur again.
"We are looking at how to make improvements," Ross said at the Brickell conference. "I want to make the stadium always feel like a new stadium, we are looking at what the next phase will be and making the fan experience that much better."
Though 10 years sounds like a bit of a stretch, the NFL often reveals Super Bowl destinations years ahead and gives them to more modern, built stadiums, such as in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and those other locations that have made significant improvements.
The next four locations are already determined as:
Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California (2026)
SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California (2027)
Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia (2028)
Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada (2029)
It has also been heavily rumored that the Super Bowl will then head to Nashville, Tennessee, by the time the new Nissan Stadium is built. There are also several NFL teams working on new stadiums that are likely in line to host as well.
With the necessary upgrades needing to take place, and construction on stadiums of that magnitude taking several years at times, it is likely the Dolphins' home turf will not be used for at least 10 years or more.
By that time, the Miami organization could be in a better spot competition-wise and may be hosting a Super Bowl and competing in it at the same time.
