The Miami Dolphins have provided a massive injury update on star running back De'Von Achane.
Head coach Jeff Hafley said that Achane is recovering from a shoulder injury that he suffered at the end of last season. Achane still is not participating fully during OTAs.
“[Achane] is still recovering [from injury] and will not be a full participant today,” Hafley said.
The first year head coach went on to further detail Achane’s absence.
“Last year, if you remember, he missed the last game of the season. You know, he had something in his shoulder that he had to get cleaned up. He did that and he’s rehabbing right now. He’s doing well and you’ll see him out there doing some drills and doing some running around. You just will not see him in full team drills.”
The 24-year-old star running back missed the last game of the 2025 season due to the injury. While an injury is never ideal, no matter the time of the season, Hafley said that the team is being cautious with him as they head towards training camp.
The Dolphins have zero worries about the injury, as they signed Achane to a massive extension. The Texas native signed a four-year, $64 million contract this month with incentives pushing the maximum value to $68 million.
Achane's AAV is at $16 milion per year, making him the third-highest paid running back in the league behind Philadelphia Eagles superstar Saquon Barkley and San Francisco 49ers superstar Christian McCaffrey.
Achane is set to enter his fourth season in the league following his impressive 2025 campaign. Last season, he set career highs across the board with 238 rushing attempts for 1,350 yards, averaged 5.7 yards per carry (leading the league) and found the end zone eight times in 16 games.
In his stellar career thus far, Achane has recorded 544 carries for 3,057 yards (5.6 avg.) and 22 touchdowns, along with 172 receptions for 1,277 yards (7.4 avg.) and 13 scores in 44 games and 36 starts. He has also appeared in one postseason game with the Dolphins.
The Dolphins selected Achane with the 84th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has established himself as one of the best running backs this game has to offer, and they regard him as such. With the money Achane has earned, he will be the focal point of the offense, which is expected to run through him.
Miami will be the furthest thing from a juggernaut; nonetheless, big things are expected from the former Texas A&M Aggie.
