Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis has been given a bad outlook for the 2026 NFL season.
The Miami Dolphins made a big change at quarterback during the 2026 NFL offseason. After deciding to move on from Tua Tagovailoa, they quickly turned to former Green Bay Packers backup Malik Willis as their new starter.
Willis is coming off back-to-back seasons as one of the best No. 2 quarterbacks in football. He provided the Packers with elite insurance behind Jordan Love.
In 2024, his first season with Green Bay, Willis played in seven total games. He completed 74.1 percent of his passes for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also running for 138 yards and a score.
Last season with the Packers, he played in just four games. He threw for 422 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while completing 85.7 percent of his pass attempts. Willis also ran for 123 yards and two more touchdowns.
Ahead of his first season as the starter for the Dolphins, Willis has been slapped with a brutal outlook.
CBS Sports analyst Tyler Sullivan doesn't think that Willis has what it takes to be Miami's long-term starter. He thinks that Willis could end up being replaced after just one season.
"Even after signing a three-year, $67.5 million contract in March, Willis could see Miami move on from him a year from now, even if it isn’t entirely his fault," Sullivan wrote.
His reasoning comes from the likelihood that Miami won't be a playoff contender. Many believe that the Dolphins will end up holding one of the top picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Should that end up being the season's outcome, Miami would have a chance to draft one of the nation's top college quarterbacks. That could be an opportunity the Dolphins can't pass one even after giving Willis such a lucrative deal.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Willis in Miami. He has the talent and potential to be the team's starting quarterback for years to come, but could be facing an uphill battle.
That is also the case considering the weaponry currently on the Dolphins roster. All of the current wide receivers have yet to emerge as true WR1 options, and that may lead to a less-than-stellar showing from Willis.
Hopefully for the Dolphins, Willis can put the questions to rest this season. Being able to have a solid starter in place and use a top 2027 draft pick on another need would be an ideal scenario for Miami.
