Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers is set to be the backup for the team as the 2026 season approaches.

The Miami Dolphins have a ton of new faces in the building. They have completely revamped from last season, but one familiar face still part of the team is soon to be second year quarterback, Quinn Ewers.

Ewers is coming off a season in which he started the final three games of the season for the Dolphins. He performed quite well; nonetheless, he is projected to be the backup quarterback for Miami behind Malik Willis.

Despite that most likely being the case, Ewers is projected to turn some heads in 2026. According to Ben Arthur of FOX Sports, the former Texas Longhorn is predicted to be a breakout candidate.

In Arthur’s top five list, he ranked Ewers at No. 5.

"Ewers is the backup in Miami behind free-agent acquisition Malik Willis, so technically he’s not even in position to "break out." But being part of a rebuilding team that most league observers expect will struggle could offer many opportunities to play.

"The former seventh-round pick won’t have much help at receiver, though, as the top three WRs on the Dolphins' depth chart — Jalen Tolbert, Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell — combined for just 712 receiving yards last season."

In four games and three starts last season, Ewers completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

At the end of the 2025 season, the 23-year-old was grateful for the opportunity he received after the team benched Tua Tagovailoa.

"It's definitely a dream come true for me to be in the shoes that I'm in right now," Ewers said. "But it also hasn't felt like I've had that time to really step back and kind of look at what's going on and whatnot. But at the end of the day, I'm not too worried about that because I'm just trying to keep instilling confidence in my teammates and continuing to grow within the position and within the team."

Ewers cieling is certainly not that high; regardless, he could be a solid NFL quarterback under the right system. What he does have working for himself is natural arm talent, effortless throwing motion, good touch and the ability to make high-level throws from multiple platforms.

At his ceiling, Ewers could develop into the type of quarterback similar to Kirk Cousins or Jared Goff once his career gets going.

Those are All-Pro level, Pro Bowl quarterbacks, and if Ewers reaches that kind of production in Miami, they would be in very good hands moving forward.
