Dolphins’ Quinn Ewers opens up about 2025 NFL Draft slide cover image

Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers gives a blunt assessment on sliding in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Miami Dolphins are clearly heading in a new direction, a shift underscored by the additions of a new head coach and general manager.

This new era could extend to the quarterback position as well. Current starter Tua Tagovailoa may find a new home for the 2026 season. If that happens, the Dolphins could turn to their 2025 draft pick, quarterback Quinn Ewers, to take the reins.

Ewers was drafted in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft despite being projected as a Day 2 pick. His slide in the draft was far from ideal. As we approach the one-year mark, Ewers opened up about his draft slide.

Ewers recently spoke to former NFL head coach Jon Gruden and shared his honest thoughts on his draft process last season.

“I was a little upset. But glad I ended up where I did," Ewers said

The 22-year-old had limited opportunities last season. Still, he did not perform well with a short sample size. In three starts, Ewers went 1-2 and threw for three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Ewers entered the 2025 season as the third-string quarterback, losing the backup competition to Zach Wilson. Although that was the case, former head coach Mike McDaniel believed Ewers was the better option to close out the Dolphins' lackluster season in 2025 after benching Tagovailoa.

In addition to discussing his draft slide, Ewers also talked about his 2025 rookie season.

“Got some playing time at the end of the year. Thought I put some good stuff on tape,” Ewers said.

“I thought I gained a lot of confidence in that first game. It might not show in the stat sheet, but I actually thought I played pretty well.”

Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan spoke highly of Ewers at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier in the week.

"Quinn did a nice job, toward the end of the year. Excited about what is ahead for him," Sullivan said

Ewers headed to South Beach after a stellar college career with the Texas Longhorns.

His three seasons in Austin were unforgettable. He recorded a 27-9 record and completed 737 passes with a 64.9 completion percentage, 9,128 passing yards, 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. Ewers also recorded a 148 passer rating and averaged 253.6 yards per game.

The Dolphins possess one first-round pick in this year's draft, the No. 11 overall pick after finishing with a 7-10 record. In total, Miami has eight selections, including five in the top 100 picks.
