The Miami Dolphins are reshaping their coaching staff after a lackluster 2025 season, starting with new head coach Jeff Hafley. Now, they have lined up a longtime NFL veteran on the staff.
According to a report from Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Dolphins have hired Nathaniel Hackett as Miami's new quarterbacks coach.
Hackett began his coaching career in 2003 as the assistant linebackers coach for UC Davis. In 2006, he made his NFL debut as offensive quality control for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He would go on to hold the same role with the Buffalo Bills in 2008.
After a brief stint with Syracuse, Hackett returned to the NFL as the Bills' offensive coordinator in 2013. He then moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015 to serve as the quarterbacks coach.
This is where Hackett's career truly took off. After Jaguars' head coach Gus Bradley was fired, Hackett was upgraded from quarterback coach to offensive coordinator where he helped create the best rushing attack for the 2017 NFL Season, averaging 141.4 yards per game.
This caught the eye of the Green Bay Packers, who brought Hackett on as offensive coordinator. Here, Hackett and quarterback Aaron Rodgers created the best scoring offense in the 2020 NFL Season. Additionally, Rodgers was named NFL MVP for 2020 and 2021.
After all of Hackett's success with the Jaguars and Packers, he was hired to be the head coach for the Denver Broncos in 2022. Unfortunately, his offensive acumen did not translate to the head coaching position, and he was fired after leading Denver to a 4-11 record. He became the fifth coach in NFL history to not complete their first season.
Hackett then reunited with Rodgers in 2023, this time as offensive coordinator for the New York Jets. However, lightning didn't strike twice, and the Jets faced two losing seasons during his time there. Hackett returned to Green Bay for the 2025 season in a defensive analyst role.
Hackett is taking over the position from Darell Bevell, who was instrumental in getting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to lead the NFL in passing yards in 2023. Unfortunately, the quality of offense drastically dropped for Miami since then.
Hopefully, Hackett will be able to bring back some of his old magic to help Tagovailoa get back to his Pro Bowl self, unless Hafley and the Dolphins decide to bring in someone new at the quarterback position .
