Miami Dolphins rookie linebacker Kyle Louis is predicted to be an immediate impact player for the team in 2026.
There has been a lot of focus on the rookie players for the Miami Dolphins, as they brought in 13 draftees. Among those players is linebacker Kyle Louis, who continues to garner praise.
What makes the Pitt prospect such an attention getter is his hybrid play. Louis played both as a safety and a linebacker, and his versatility can be a nightmare for offenses, which is why draft expert Field Yates named him as a later-round immediate impact possibility.
"Louis was one of my favorite players to watch on tape during the predraft process, as he was everywhere on film at Pitt. He doesn't have prototypical linebacker size (6-foot, 220 pounds), but Louis can flat-out fly and cover. He is going to find a role quickly with the Dolphins -- be it at weakside linebacker or box safety. New coach Jeff Hafley should be able to tap into Louis' unique skill set," Yates said.
This description definitely tracks, as the Dolphins brass were very happy about bringing in Louis. It was determined that he would play linebacker, but that does not mean he cannot be a sub-package star on the defense.
Head coach Jeff Hafley was a defensive backs expert before working his way into a defensive coordinator position and as the head coach of Boston College. So, naturally, he would want players who become playmakers in the secondary.
The Dolphins also dealt with multiple injuries in 2025 on the unit, leading to veterans Jack Jones and Rasul Douglas being signed. Jones has since signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and Douglas is unlikely to return.
With the secondary now in flux and having rookie Chris Johnson as a presumed starter alongside Storm Duck and Jason Marshall Jr., Hafley may be looking to bring in some other looks with Louis as the kind of speedster who can help cover receivers and tight ends in a big way.
Back when Brian Flores was running the show, he liked to use what was called the "amoeba" defense, as the team would hide their coverages and emerge as either blitzes or covers. This could be something similar to what may happen now, especially with players like Louis to be the perfect kind of defender to utilize his versatility in these situations.
There are a lot of solid players on the defense that can aid this, including the linebacker corps that includes Tyrel Dodson, Jordyn Brooks, and fellow rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez.
With Louis added to unit, this coud be one of the Dolphins' biggest strengths in 2026.
