The Miami Dolphins are bringing in former Chicago Bears cornerback Nick McCloud amid their mounting injuries.

The Miami Dolphins have some very significant roster moves. The team bolstered their offensive line depth with a rare inter-divisional trade, bringing in Caedan Wallace from the New England Patriots.

Additionally, the Dolphins also announced multiple roster moves, including the signing of former Chicago Bears cornerback Nick McCloud.

McCloud has 20 starts in his five years in the NFL, having played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and the aforementioned Bears.

McCloud has one interception, 10 passes defended, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 1.5 sacks, and 83 total tackles in his career thus far.

The signing for the Dolphins makes perfect sense as they are dealing with a multitude of injuries to their secondary.

Storm Duck and Darrell Baker Jr. remain on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list, and head coach Jeff Hafley indicated both would be out long-term, stating they would both "return at some point during the season" at the end of July.

Duck is currently recovering from a season-ending knee injury that he suffered in 2025, and Baker has a lower body injury.

Additionally, Juju Brents has also suffered an injury, though it is not expected to be long-term. Hafley stated that Brents will be out this week but should return next week.

With the mounting injuries to the secondary, McCloud is now being brought in as depth and much-needed competition.

Additional Dolphins Roster Moves

To make room for the signing of McCloud, the Dolphins also announced they waived running back Anthony Hankerson. Hankerson joined Miami after going undrafted out of Colorado.

Kicker Zane Gonzalez was also placed on injured reserve following an injury that occurred on Saturday during training camp. Gonzalez left due to the injury and will now be out for multiple weeks.

There was still a major competition between Gonzalez and Riley Patterson taking place, but it appears that competition is now set to fall to Patterson by default.

That is not to say that Patterson was not ahead in terms of the actual kicking competition, but he will be getting the only reps between now and the start of the regular season.

Patterson set the Dolphins franchise kicking accuracy record in 2025, as he secured a 93.1 accuracy percentage during the season. Regardless of the record, Gonzalez was brought in to act as direct competition, but he has now suffered an unfortunate camp injury that will sideline him, presumably until the start of the regular season.
