Reports indicated that the Miami Dolphins were set for a Mexico City trip against the San Francisco 49ers, but that is not the case, as the team will not have any international games.
Ahead of the full schedule release, the Miami Dolphins have found out their fate regarding the international slate. Initially, it was reported that the team would travel to Mexico City to take on the San Francisco 49ers, but that is not the case.
In fact, the full slate of international games was announced on Wednesday morning, and the Dolphins will get the benefit of not playing abroad.
Though this may be a disappointing update for international fans, it hugely benefits the Dolphins. The travel involved can often take a toll on any team, and Miami, having to fly longer than usual for a game in an international area during a rebuild phase, may have been chalked up to a loss.
There is also the history of the games to consider, as international matchups have not been kind to Miami.
Dolphins International Game History
The Dolphins have lost four of their last five games in international territories, dating back to the 2025 season when they beat the Washington Commanders in Madrid, Spain, with a 16-13 final score in overtime.
In 2023, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany, with a final score of 21-14.
In 2021, the Dolphins traveled to London, losing to the Urban Meyer-led Jacksonville Jaguars, with a final score of 23-20.
They played the New Orleans Saints in 2017 in London, where they were shut out with a final score of 20-0.
Finally, in 2015, they played the New York Jets in London, losing 27-14.
Naturally, losing four of their last five in international games might be a big reason why the NFL chose to keep the Dolphins from appearing overseas. Then again, there may have been far more exciting matchups to put together as well.
Either way, Miami gets the benefit of playing all of their home games at Hard Rock Stadium, as opposed to potentially being the "home" team at an international stadium.
There is no telling how the team may have performed, but their schedule just got a bit easier. The full release schedule will take place on May 14, and there is still plenty to consider.
This is especially the case, as the Dolphins have already been hit with the second-toughest schedule for the 2026 season. Based on the winning records from 2025 of their opponents, their strength of schedule is the second-worst in the league.
