The Miami Dolphins have a chance to bolster their wide receiver room by adding this former San Franscio 49ers All-Pro.
The Miami Dolphins are projected to enter the 2026 season as one of the worst teams in the NFL.
There are very few to no expectations for the Dolphins this upcoming season as they have retooled their roster and front office from top to bottom.
The goal for Miami this season is to develop its young players as they enter a new era of Dolphins football. Even with that being the case, it’s clear the Dolphins still need to add to their wide receiver room, as they’re about as thin as any team in the league at that position.
One name the Dolphins could consider adding is veteran pass catcher and former All-Pro, Deebo Samuel.
From a football perspective, the 30-year-old actually fits what Miami needs surprisingly well. The Dolphins' offense is transitioning into a new era with Malik Willis set to be the starting quarterback this season, as well as a new offensive structure with a revamped coaching staff.
One thing that can help stabilize that kind of transition is adding a veteran offensive weapon who creates production without needing perfect quarterback play. What makes Samuel fit in this system is that he thrives with that type of quarterback.
Samule is still a productive wide receiver, and one of the reasons why he makes sense in Miami is that his catch-and-run ability fits perfectly. The soon-to-be eight-year veteran has built his career on yards after catch, manufactured touches, slants, motion concepts and his insane ability to turn short plays into explosive gains.
That style of play works perfectly in a developing offense and could help ease Willis into games and certainly down the stretch into close football games. Samuel could take a lot of the load off Willis, which will then help his overall production.
Not only would his style of play be helpful for the Dolphins, but it would give Miami badly needed wide receiver production from a proven player. The Dolphins posisnly havew oneofthe woets wide receiver rooms in the league on paper.
They are currently led by the likes of Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert; and those are not the types of names that typically strike fear into opposing defenses.
While Samuel is not quite the same player he was with the San Francisco 49ers, he will, by far, be the biggest and best name in the wide receiver room.
The former South Carolina Gamecock makes more sense for Miami than many would initially think. He checks a ton of boxes the Dolphins need in that room; the only question mark may be if Miami wants to have a veteran of his caliber during a rebuild season.
