The Miami Dolphins need a new general manager, and reports indicated the team would get busy as soon as the regular season ended. That appears to be the case, as the organization has lined up several interviews.
Among the first round of interviews are:
Los Angeles Rams Assistant GM John McKay
Philadelphia Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby
Green Bay Packers VP of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan
San Francisco 49ers Director of Scouting and Football Operations Josh Williams
49ers VP of Player Personnel Tariq Ahmad
This is only the first round of interviews, and it is likely that the Dolphins will bring in many more names in the coming days and weeks.
Among the initial names, there is a wealth of experience the Dolphins have chosen to interview, and from teams that have won plenty in recent seasons and in 2025.
Rams assistant GM John McKay has spent the last 10 seasons with the team, initially starting as a scout in 2016. The last four seasons, he was the director of player personnel and served as the director of pro scouting.
Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby worked as an intern for the team in 2007 and 2009, leading to his being promoted to player personnel analyst from 2010 to 2011. He would move into being a special assistant to the general manager from 2012 to 2015, landing the Vice President of football operations and strategy role from 2016 to 2021, and finally assistant GM from 2022 to present.
Packers VP of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan has been with the organization for 20 years, starting off as an intern in 2003 and moving into scouting from 2008 to 2016, where he rose to director of college scouting. In 2022, he was made the vice president of player personnel.
49ers Director of Scouting and Football Operations Josh Williams has spent 14 seasons with the team, and has been in his first year in the director role. He previously served as a national and area scout between the 2017 and 2023 seasons.
49ers VP of Player Personnel Tariq Ahmad was the previous director of football recruiting operations at Rutgers University for four years before joining San Francisco. He was promoted to vice president after spending the 2021 to 2023 seasons as director of college scouting and the 2023 and 2024 seasons as director of player personnel.
The Dolphins indicated they would be looking to hire someone who has major scouting and personnel experience, and all of these candidates thus far fit that bill.
There is not telling what the team plans to do with Mike McDaniel, but a new general manager could want to move on and find a new head coach. The Dolphins need to revamp the team, and that will start with a new general manager.
