Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Jones has landed his next gig with the San Francisco 49ers. Jones missed the entire 2025 season due to a broken bone in his neck, but he now joins an NFC contender to rebound his career.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on the signings, stating:
"Veteran guard Robert Jones is signing with the 49ers, sources tell The Insiders.
"Jones played in 49 games (30 starts) for the Dolphins before signing with Dallas, where he missed last season because of a neck injury. He’s healthy now and headed to San Francisco."
The 49ers are doing their due diligence to ensure Brock Purdy is plenty protected, and Jones could be a sneaky-good signing for the team. Despite missing an entire season, the former Dolphins lineman is now ready to play again.
Jones was initially signed to the Dolphins after going undrafted in 2021. After working his way up in training camp, he was not released during the final roster cuts.
Jones would get his first batch of starts during the 2022 season, appearing in 16 games and securing seven starts. Unfortunately, that was short-lived, as he suffered a knee injury that kept him out of half of the season.
It wasn't until 2024 that Jones began to shine as a starter, playing in and starting all 17 games. The Dallas Cowboys brought Jones in on a one-year deal in March, but he suffered a broken bone in his neck that knocked him out for the whole year.
Now, Jones gets to rebound in a big way, as he is joining the 49ers. San Francisco remains one of the top teams in the NFC.
Jones might immediately catch a starting job with the team, where he could be plugged in as the left guard. While there could be some concern given his injury history, he is expected to be fully healthy and ready to go.
Jones is only 27 years old and presumably still has a long career ahead of him. If he can show up in a big way for the 49ers, the former Dolphins lineman may carve out a multi-year deal with the NFC powerhouse.
