Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Isaiah Ford is moving into coaching, and he has landed his first NFL job with the Chicago Bears.
Ford has plenty of familiarity with Ben Johnson, as he was the wide receivers coach when the receiver played for the Dolphins from 2017 to 2020.
NFL insider Ari Meirov reported on the hiring, stating:
"Former NFL WR Isaiah Ford is going into coaching and has been hired by the #Bears as an offensive quality control coach. Bears HC Ben Johnson coached Ford in Miami when he was a receivers coach. Ford last played for the Bears in 2023."
Ford was initially drafted by the Dolphins in 2017 in the seventh round. After an injury saw him miss the season, he would re-sign with the team as a practice squad player in 2018, and was promoted to the active roster in November that same year.
After his stint with the Dolphins, Ford was traded to the New England Patriots in 2020. He would eventually return to Miami and remain through the 2021 season.
Following his second stint with the Dolphins, he was on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
Ford appeared in 32 games for the Dolphins across four seasons, picking up 681 yards and two touchdowns.
With his playing career now over, Ford is moving into coaching, which a lot of former players are starting to do in bigger numbers.
Ford also has the benefit of joining an exciting coaching staff under Johnson and an exciting Bears team. He will be taking on an offensive quality coach as his first foray into the coaching world.
Depending on how well Ford does in his first stop as a coach, he might climb the ladder and be promoted to a bigger role in the coming seasons. For now, he gets to learn from one of the most dynamic coaches in the NFL.
Johnson took over as head coach of the Bears, and the team went deep into the playoffs. With Caleb Williams at the helm, there is a lot of promise for the team, and Ford will now be a part of that offense for the 2026 season.
