Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was in the hot seat heading into the 2025 NFL Season.
After two winning seasons in 2022 and 2023, McDaniel and the Dolphins failed to make the playoffs for two seasons in a row, meaning his time with Miami had come to an end.
Still, not all hope was lost for McDaniel. He quickly landed on his feet by acquiring an offensive coordinator position with the Los Angeles Chargers working with the likes of head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert.
While it may seem like McDaniel is ready to move on, fans want to know how he feels about the end of his tenure with the Dolphins. And according to McDaniel, he has no hard feelings.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, McDaniel shared his feelings about his time with the Dolphins, saying he "wouldn't trade it for anything."
"You spend a lot of time trying to be prepared for that opportunity," McDaniel said. "And in that, I thought I very much was prepared, you find out on the job there's unique things to the job that are difficult, for sure.
"I wouldn't trade it for anything. I think for me as a coach in the National Football League, I'm just getting started, you know, to where my career can go."
"I'm very happy with all of the lessons learned," McDaniel continued. "I really found some unbelievable relationships there, within the Dolphins organization, and I very much appreciate my time there. But it's time for a new chapter and I'm ready to go for that."
While McDaniel's time with the Dolphins ended mildly, it started with a bang. The Dolphins boasted one of the best offenses in the NFL with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The trio had multiple iconic moments, including a dominant 70-20 victory over the Broncos in 2023.
Now, McDaniel has moved on and so have the Dolphins, who announced that Jeff Hafley would be the new head coach.
While he played at wide receiver, Hafley has spent almost his entire coaching career on the defensive side of the ball. He served as a defensive backs coach at the collegiate level for Albany (2004-2005), Pittsburgh (2008-2010), Rutgers (2011), and Ohio State (2019). He was also the head coach for Boston College from 2020 to 2023.
In the NFL, Hafley has been a defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers. Most recently, he was the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers from 2024 to 2025.
