Multiple Miami Dolphins stars might miss the season finale, and head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to the media and revealed who is out and who might still be in.
Star running back De'Von Achane was the first among the updates, with McDaniel revealing he would miss practice again on Friday.
"Typically, guys who don’t practice on Friday typically don’t play," McDaniel said of Achane.
He did not rule him out yet, but signs are pointing to Jaylen Wright being the main back for the finale.
Additionally, McDaniel also revealed that tight end Darren Waller is heading to IR due to his groin injury, and he will miss the season finale. This is his second stint on IR this season.
Despite missing practice this week, Jordyn Brooks will attempt to play on Sunday. He remains the leading tackler and is likely attempting to keep that title for the regular season.
Chop Robinson is still practicing, though he has yet clear concussion protocol. He may be able to do so in an attempt to play on Sunday.
Minkah Fitzpatrick is out for the finale and is still recovering from the calf injury he suffered during Week 15.
Jaylen Waddle will also be limited for Friday's practice due to a rib injury, and he will be questionable for Sunday.
With Waller going on IR, the Dolphins also signed running back Donovan Edwards from the Washington Commanders' practice squad to take the roster spot.
It appears the Dolphins could be without multiple starters for their finale, but it is also a chance for the younger talent to get more valuable reps.
Wright had a 107-yard and one-touchdown breakout game against the New York Jets, and he will now get another chance to do so against the Patriots.
Ewers will get a final chance to start and put together an impressive game that impresses the front office and McDaniel.
Reports have indicated that the team plans to bring in another quarterback to compete for the starting job in 2026, but that will be up to the new general manager who is hired.
Either way, the rookie signal caller will get another chance to impress against the Patriots. If Ewers can play another solid game, he may work his way into getting a more extended look in 2026.
