NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman explains his new role with the Miami Dolphins.

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman explained his new role with the Miami Dolphins.

In a recent interview with Dallas Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr., Aikman broke down his (undefined) role with the Dolphins. Aikman explained that he is all-in with Miami; however, in terms of his role with the team, that remains unclear.

"I think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league. And knowing that I have information they don’t have or can’t get. I think they were smart in taking advantage of that ... I'm pulling for the Dolphins and I feel like I have something at stake," Aikman said.

"I’ll continue to help in ways that are yet to be defined," Aikman said.

Earlier this offseason, the Dolphins hired Aikman as a consultant to help the club search for a new general manager this offseason. They ended up landing Jon-Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers, and thus far, he has cleaned house.

In another podcast appearance, Aikman admitted that his initial hire with the Dolphins, which took place in January, took him by surprise. However, he has embraced the opportunity ahead of him and found the experience rewarding.

Aikman plans on continuing to work with the team even though the long-term direction remains uncertain. There are a ton of question marks regarding the team as the 2026 season slowly looms.

Aikman has a chance to take the Dolphins to new heights. He is a proven winner, leading the Cowboys to three Super Bowl titles in four seasons. Aikman was a six-time Pro Bowler who played his entire 12-year career with the Cowboys.

In his Hall of Fame career, Aikman collected a 94-71 record in 165 games, threw for 32,942 passing yards, 165 touchdowns, 141 interceptions, a completion percentage of 61.5 percent and averaged 199.6 passing yards per contest.

Aikman was elite, with his pinpoint accuracy, rapid release, and exceptional ability to read defenses under pressure.

The Dolphins aren't expected to do much this fall. They are facing a major rebuilding year characterized by a salary cap reset, a massive roster overhaul, and low expectations.

The goal for the 2026 Dolphins is to collect young and dynamic talent, and they are set to do so in this month's NFL Draft. The Dolphins possess 11 draft picks this season, including seven in the top 100.

On top of that, Miami has two first-round picks, their No. 11 pick and the No. 30 pick that they acquired via trade from the Denver Broncos. Miami traded star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Broncos for a massive haul, acquiring the No. 30 pick of this year's draft, a third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick.

The 2026 season is expected to be a wash for Miami; however, the future could be bright, especially with Aikman playing a role with the team.
