The Miami Dolphins have a ton of needs on their roster as the 2026 season draws near.
Miami's front office has made moves that suggest a long-term vision extending beyond the 2026 season. Even so, the team still aims to stay competitive this fall, and given its clear need at wide receiver, Miami could take a swing at Brandon Aiyuk.
The Dolphins are entering a rebuilding period under the new regime of general manager Jon Eric-Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley. It's a new era for the Dolphins, and with that, there is a chance that comes with very few wins.
Aiyuk would immediately be the clear-cut wide receiver one for a Dolphins team that looks bleak in that department. The 28-year-old missed all of the 2025 season as he worked his way back from the knee injuries that he suffered in October 2024.
It's been quite the roller coaster for Aiyuk in his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers. The two sides have gone through their fair share of drama, and a change of scenery is necessary for Aiyuk. Miami could be that spot.
The Dolphins desperately need another wide receiver, as their current group—featuring Jalen Tolbert, Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell, and Terrace Marshall Jr.—lacks the firepower needed to elevate the offense. As it stands, the unit does not project to be strong enough to consistently produce at even a middle-of-the-pack level.
Aiyuk could change that (for the right price and if he is healthy). Health has been a struggle for the former Arizona State Sun Devil. His first four seasons in the league were great. Aiyuk was productive and healthy, playing in 62 games. However, the past two seasons have been the polar opposite, playing in only seven games.
In his career, Aiyuk has tallied 4,305 receiving yards, 294 receptions, 25 touchdowns and averages 62.4 yards per game. His best season came in 2023, when he earned a spot on the Second-Team All-Pro. Aiyuk recorded career-highs in receiving yards (1,342) and averaged 83.9 yards per reception.
When Aiyuk is at his best, he’s a highly refined route-runner who wins with precision and timing, while also offering elite yards-after-catch ability and a physical, aggressive playing style.
Although he isn’t known for top-end speed like some receivers the Dolphins have become accustomed to, he remains highly productive—ranking among the league leaders in yards per route run and consistently stretching the field with strong production both before and after the catch.
The expectation is that the Dolphins will select an elite wide receiver prospect with one of their two first-round picks. However, if they decide to go another route, Aiyuk could be an option they will have their eye on.
