A look at the running backs on the Miami Dolphins roster and where things stand ahead of training camp.

There are some big questions on the Miami Dolphins roster, but one position that does not have a lot of concern is the running back room.

De'Von Achane anchors a unit that has some solid depth and could see even more opportunities with the belief that the offense will be centered around the run game. That said, here is a deeper look at the current running back room.

Dolphins Running Backs on the Roster

De'Von Achane

Achane remains the man at the top, and his 1,350 rushing yards, eight touchdowns, 488 receiving yards and four touchdowns led to a four-year, $64 million deal.

The playmaker has been dealing with an injury in triaining camp, but it should not be anything to worry about, per head coach Jeff Hafley.

Achane continues to showcase his skills on the ground and in the pass game, giving the Dolphins offense and Malik Willis a sizable cushion to figure out what the team's offensive identity will be.

Jaylen Wright

Jaylen Wright offered some solid rotational production in 2025, bringing in 288 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with 44 receiving yards. He did have two fumbles, which will need to be corrected in a big way.

Still, Wright could be given more opportunities this season, especially if Achane's health or longevity becomes a talking point down the road.

Ollie Gordon II

Ollie Gordon II was also in the same boat as Wright, bringing in 199 rushing yards and three touchdowns, along with 32 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Gordon has spoken about his role on the team, indicating he is there to help the offense in any way that he can. He could still be splitting carries with Wright, but may find a bigger role if he can prove his prowess on the ground.

Carlos Washington Jr.

Carlos Washington Jr. spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons from 2023 to 2025, but only appeared in one game during that time. He offers depth for the running back corps.

Donovan Edwards

Donovan Edwards spent time on the New York Jets and Washington Commanders practice squads in 2025, and joined the Dolphins in January. He should offer some competition and could be a potential practice squad option.

Anthony Hankerson

Anthony Hankerson is in the same boat, joining the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2026. He will have an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster, but he could find himself on the practice squad at some point.

Biggest Running Back Questions

As mentioned above, Achane has been dealing with an ailment during training camp and OTAs, so it will be interesting to see if his health remains an issue in 2026. He has not missed a lot of games, but being the bellcow back and missing any time is never good.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik does have a solid trio to work with, so it will be interesting to see how he factors in Wright and Gordon. Will either be given more opportunities than the other?
