Star defensive tackle Jalen Carter undergoes surgery, sidelining him indefinitely. Find out who steps up for the Eagles' struggling defense.
The Philadelphia Eagles will be without their star defensive tackle against the Los Angeles Chargers, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Thursday that Jalen Carter underwent a procedure on both of his shoulders on Monday. He’s now receiving treatment and is considered week-to-week and won’t play this Monday against the Chargers. The intent is to keep him as close to 100% as possible for a Philadelphia playoff run.
That’s not optimal for the Eagles who are looking to get right off a two-game losing streak. Carter has been dealing with shoulder issues all season, and it was clear he wasn’t himself in the team’s loss to the Chicago Bears. Carter missed the first three practices of training camp with the shoulder injury and it’s been clear at times that he’s hurting. Now the injury has at least been dealt with.
Here is the full story from Eagles Roundtable writer Ashish Mathur on the injury update and what the team will do in his absence.
The team is currently conceding 20.8 per game, and that number will likely go up without Carter. He was the team’s No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. In two seasons in the league, Carter has 107 tackles, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 12 pass breakups. He was on the All-Rookie team and also received Pro Bowl honors.
He’s recorded 20 solo tackles, two sacks, four TFLs, and 11 QB hits this year alone. In his absence, look for Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis to step up, alongside Byron Young and rookie Ty Robinson.
