This blockbuster NFL trade idea sees the Philadelphia Eagles parting ways with Jalen Carter.
A blockbuster trade idea sending Jalen Carter away from the Philadelphia Eagles has been proposed by NFL analyst Moe Moton of Bleacher Report.
Moton believes the Eagles should trade Carter to the Arizona Cardinals for Josh Sweat, who used to play in Philadelphia.
"Here's a blockbuster deal that could solve issues for both teams," Moton wrote. "According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Eagles are 'hesitant' to sign Carter to an extension. Philadelphia has a need on the edge with Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr. likely to compete for snaps opposite Jonathan Greenard. Hunt has made strides, but he has been a rotational player for two years.
"The Eagles can upgrade their pass rush by bringing back Sweat, who played for the team between 2018 and 2024. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the 29-year-old edge-rusher has 'let it be known' that he's not happy in Arizona. The Cardinals can swap him and draft capital for Carter, who's younger and can contribute to the pass rush on the interior of the defensive line."
Philadelphia selected Carter with the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Carter has 13.5 sacks, 66 solo tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 37 QB hits in 43 games. He made the Pro Bowl in 2024 and 2025 and helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl during the 2024 season against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles have already picked up the fifth-year option on Carter, who will make $27.1 million in 2027 if he isn't extended before then. Carter's 83 pass-rush wins as an interior lineman since 2023 are tied for the seventh-most in the NFL.
For Arizona last season, Sweat put up 12 sacks, 20 solo tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 17 QB hits in 17 games. The Cardinals went 3-14 and missed the playoffs again.
The odds of this trade idea happening are pretty low. However, if the Eagles don't sign Carter to an extension, the star defender could become unhappy.
It will be fascinating to see if the Eagles sign Carter to an extension before the 2026 season. Philly opens the season against the Washington Commanders.
