It hasn't been the ideal season for star running back Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles.

When Barkley has been at his best throughout his career, there’s a strong argument to be made that he’s among the best running backs of all time. Unfortunately, his 2025 season has seen him rush 185 times for just 684 yards.

Averaging 3.7 yards per carry, Barkley also has only four touchdowns, which would be the second fewest of his career. He finished with just two in 2021 and zero in 2020 due to injuries.

Regarding what Barkley could look like in the future, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Eagles potentially move on from him if he simply isn’t the player he once was.

Again, it’s very early to suggest that Barkley can’t get back to that level, but it’s certainly something that might have to be discussed down the line.

If it is, it sounds like some Chicago Bears fans would love him on the roster, including Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire at USA Today, who stated that he would love to steal him from Philadelphia.

“Even more, Barkley signed with Philadelphia after departing from the NFC East rival New York Giants, and stuck it to his old team in more ways than one. There were questions about his long-term health and if he was worth a high-contract, and the answer was he's good on both fronts.

“Reports indicate that Barkley had considered signing with Chicago before ultimately joining Philadelphia, but with Matt Eberflus roaming the sidelines in 2024, it was crisis avoided for the All-Pro running back. Ben Johnson has recreated a respectable running game in Chicago in his first year as head coach, and thinking of an improved Bears offensive line, and putting Barkley in a backfield behind Williams, the possibilities are endless,” he wrote.

As of now, I’d be relatively shocked to see the Eagles move on from Barkley in the near future.

Again, if this were to happen in another two years, anything is possible, but for now, he’s done enough over the past few years to suggest that he can figure things out when the offense gets going.
