Dontayvion Wicks can't wait to play for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired WR Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers this offseason. It was a necessary trade for the Eagles, who sent A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.
Wicks received a two-year extension from the Eagles after the trade. The veteran recently opened up about the Packers trading him and Philadelphia giving him an extension before he even played a game for his new team.
"I just want to say I'm blessed to be able to be in this position," Wicks said, via Eagles.com. "It just showed me the value and love that Philly has for me and I want to come out and show what I'm worth."
For the Packers last season, Wicks had 30 receptions for 332 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. The Eagles hired Packers wide receivers coach Ryan Mahaffey and quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion this offseason, so Wicks is already comfortable in Philadelphia.
"Me and Sean built a relationship just like Coach Mahaffey," Wicks said. "Relationships play a big part in things, so I felt like that was a big part of the reason why, you know, the trust for me to be here and for them to bank on me."
Wicks enters next season with 108 receptions for 1,328 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. He will have a big role in Philadelphia since Brown is gone.
"I want to be the best I can be, fill in the void. Whatever the team asks me to do, step up and play that role," Wicks said. "I just think of it as capitalizing on my opportunity that's given to me. We never know what happens throughout the season. Just taking it day by day and keep on working to be the best."
The Eagles won the NFC East last season but lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round. Meanwhile, Wicks and the Packers lost to the Chicago Bears in the wild card round.
Philadelphia and Wicks are motivated to win the title next season. Let's see how the Eagles do in Year 1 without Brown.
