The Eagles' offseason addition wants to play, but give it time.
After signing Hollywood Brown in the offseason, there was hope and an expectation that the new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver would make some level of impact for the organization.
That's not to say that Brown was going to be the best wide receiver on the team by any means or have a chance to put up 500 to 750 yards, but there was certainly hope that he was going to be a guy who could be a factor for this organization.
After not even seeing the field in Week 1, many questions remain about what the Eagles plan to do with the veteran and whether he has a chance to make any impact for the organization.
It sounds like he's already starting to get frustrated, as head coach Nick Sirianni came out and said that while Brown can help his team, he didn't have a chance to do so on Sunday. He does, however, understand that Brown can eventually be a guy who can do just that. Brown's response wasn't exactly promising.
“So, with [Sunday’s game], we have our rotations that we’re doing, you know, Hollywood could obviously help us,” Sirianni said.
“We obviously want to get him into the football game because his speed is real. It just didn’t work out that way [on Sunday]. … But we know that Hollywood can help us win football games, and his speed is real, and, quite frankly, just from my end, we want to get him into the football game, right?”
Brown responded.
“Nah, no, it don’t,” he said about whether Sirianni’s comments meant anything to him, per the Inquirer. “But I’m not dwelling on it. I’m ready for next week.”
I can understand that Brown is probably frustrated by Sirianni's comments. Nobody knows what was said to him behind the scenes when he decided to take this deal in the offseason.
At the same time, we also have to recognize that Sirianni is seeing a lot more than we are in practice and whatnot. If he believes that Brown isn't ready to play or can't help his team right now, it's not crazy to say that he shouldn't be on the field.
