Many Philadelphia Eagles fans have wanted the team to go after Maxx Crosby this offseason, and it certainly makes a lot of sense.
Crosby, undoubtedly one of the top edge rushers the NFL has ever seen, would be a ridiculous addition to a team that's already one of the best in the NFL. Unfortunately for Eagles fans who want Crosby, or wanted him a few weeks ago, the chances of that happening don't seem very likely, as the Eagles went out and made a trade for Jonathan Greenard.
Greenard is a very good player in his own right, but he's not the same caliber of player as Crosby. That isn't a shot at the former Minnesota Vikings edge rusher, but just a reality of how good Crosby really is.
There's a reason why many consider him as highly as they do, and that's because he knows how to get to the quarterback nearly better than anybody who has ever played the game.
However, the Eagles' decision to trade for Greenard probably put a stop to any talk of adding Crosby, with one writer suggesting it's very unlikely the two sides will reach an agreement on a deal now.
“The Eagles sought out a pass rusher this offseason, and centered around acquiring Jonathan Greenard. That move was in the works for weeks, even when the Maxx Crosby trade to the Baltimore Ravens fell through. The Las Vegas Raiders have the cap room to retain Crosby on the roster, and bolstered their defense to help him out. Crosby could be available, but it's hard to see the Eagles landing him at this point.
“The Eagles are set at pass rusher with Jonathan Greenard, Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and Arnold Ebiketie. Either Hunt or Smith would have to be included in a deal to acquire Crosby, and it's hard to envision the Eagles going that route at this stage in the offseason,” Jeff Kerr wrote.
Had the Eagles really wanted Crosby, I have a feeling Howie Roseman would have gone out and tried to make a deal for him after the failed trade with the Baltimore Ravens.
Roseman saw that he was available for the taking, but perhaps his medical situation, which the Ravens flagged, was something Roseman and the Eagles didn't want to deal with.
